ISP's are Thinking About Charging per Gigabyte?!

If Net Neutrality isn't enough, get ready to say good-bye to the days of unlimited Internet access.  According to an article in PC World's April 2008 edition on page 33, they are reporting that Time Warner is considering putting a cap on how much one can download (use of bandwidth) per month.  This is very serious.  The positive on capping how much a household or individual could download is that you may get away with paying a lot less than you are now if you a light user of the Net, otherwise if you are a moderate to heave user then you will have to shell out a lot more than the average of $55.00 per month for your broadband.  I can see this as being a shot in the foot as well with any broadband provider with Verizon's FIOS on the scene.  Since cable companies are regulated and telephones are not, they may end up offering a huge advantage over cable companies in the future.  If you are a Time Warner user,  call and submit a comment on your opinion on the thought of this as to whether or not you agree as a current consumer.

How will bandwidth limit my Internet experience?  You will have to somehow gauge the following:
  • Online video (news channels, YouTube, etc.)
  • Downloads (Windows updates, E-Mails, Instant Messaging,  files, mp3's, etc.)
  • Streaming Music, etc.

If you one of those that remember the earlier days of the net with AOL, you may remember the per hour charges.  Ready to return to this?  The only real perk is if you are a light user, you may get away with paying less, otherwise if you use the Internet like it meant to, then you will pay up.
